Here are some simple tips for eating at fast food restaurants that will save you the guilt later on:
- Watch out for sauces: Instead of adding dipping sauces to the order, leave it out completely. Though seemingly harmless, these creamy sauces are packed with calories and saturated fat. If you have to have it, only take one and use sparingly.
- Order baked or grilled, not fried: When there is an option between a crispy chicken sandwich or a grilled chicken sandwich, always go for grilled. Grilling is a much healthier option than deep frying.
- Order the smaller size: If you're craving fries, then treat yourself to some! But rather than getting the large order of fries, try the small size--that way you'll satisfy your cravings and save some money!
- Try out a salad or fresh product: While salads can be healthier, dressing is not. Some fast food restaurants drench the salad in dressing to the point where you don't even see any lettuce. The smarter option would be to ask for dressing on the side and dip your fork in the dressing before going for a bite.
- Frequent "healthier" fast food places: It may seem like an oxymoron, but some fast food restaurants can be healthy. Subway, for example, is a great fast food place because you can control the ingredients and amount of ingredients in your sandwich or salad.
- Limit soda pop: Try not to top off your meal with a large cup of soda. Instead go for water or some sort of fruit juice for a healthier meal.
